The Moonee Valley Drifters

The Moonee Valley Drifters are heading down the highway, bringing their trailblazing brand of Country & Western to the Barwon Club Bandroom on Saturday 22nd November from 8pm. A true Melbourne institution, Tom Forsell and his long-running crew have been keeping the flame of classic country burning for over four decades.

Expect a night of timeless country, swing and soul—old favorites, new tunes, and a packed dance floor.

With a shared love of Western Swing, the Drifters channel the heart and soul of the Louvin Brothers, Lefty Frizzell, George Jones and Brenda Lee. Their sound captures the joy, heartbreak and dancehall energy that built the foundations of country music. As fans at Out On The Weekend said, they bring “the real roots of country to Melbourne.”

The lineup features John “Dude” Brockton (drums/vocals), Rob Grenville (vocals, guitar), Tom Forsell (vocals, guitar, mandolin, accordion) and Ian McDonald (doghouse bass). Together they deliver the warmth and grit of a band that’s lived every song they play.

Celebrating 41 years on the road, The Moonee Valley Drifters are releasing Best Of Volume One, spanning seven albums, rare live ABC sessions and early recordings from Graham Thomas’s legendary Preston studio.
